BLOOD DONATION

"NEW BLOOD FOR THE WORLD"

Blood transfusion is a vital component of health care. The threat to life due to insufficient blood stocks and the risk of transfusion-transmissible infections calls for a safe and adequate blood supply for all those requiring transfusion. As the need for blood increases globally, young people can make an important contribution by donating blood and by recruiting other young people to become donors.Blood is the red coloured fluid flowing continuously in our body's circulatory system. About 1/12th of the body weight of a healthy individual is blood. On an average there are about 5 - 6 litres of blood present

There are many situations in which patients need blood to stay alive:
  • A patient needs blood after a major accident in which there is loss of blood.
  • No major surgery is performed without blood as there is bound to be blood loss.
  • On an average, for every open heart surgery about 6 units of blood is required.
  • In miscarriage or childbirth, cases the patient may need large amount of blood to be transfused for saving her life and also the child's.
  • For patients with blood diseases like severe Anaemias especially Aplastic Anaemias, Leucaemias (blood cancer), Haemophilia (bleeding disorder), Thalassemia etc. repeated blood transfusions are the only solution.
  • In many other situations like poisoning, drug reactions, shock, burns, blood transfusion is the only way to save precious human life.
There are three types of blood donors: -

(1) PROFESSIONAL DONORS - They sell their blood, which is of very poor quality and can

transmit very dangerous diseases to the recipient. It is illegal to take blood from any professional donor.

(2) REPLACEMENT DONATION - Healthy relatives and friends of the patient give their blood, of any group, to the blood bank. In exchange, the required number of units in the required blood group is given.

(3) VOLUNTARY DONATION- Here a donor donates blood voluntarily. The blood can be used for any patient even without divulging the identity of the donor. This is the best type of blood donation where a motivated human being gives blood in an act of selfless service.

Any person within the age group of 18 - 60 years with a body weight as minimum 45 kgs, and having hemoglobin content as minimum 12.5 gm%.

So what about the next?

No fumbling.

The global theme for 2010 will be - Young Donors, with the slogan"New blood for the world" It hopes that a new generation of idealistic and motivated voluntary unpaid blood donors will form a pool that provides the safest blood possible for use wherever and whenever it is needed to save life. Youth will, therefore, be the focus of the day.

School reunion 2009

20 th September 2009, the day of recollecting the sweet memories.
This year the reunion of Bidhannagar Govt. High School was organised by the 2008 passed out batch.
It is like "fire pawa". The venue was the place which is witness of growing friendship, love and hope. The event name was very appropriate, "return ticket".

B.N.G.H.S

This year the main event was with Anjan Dutta, the great singer in Kolkata. The program was fabulous.

He did a different type of show. The root of us,
the young age, the "pawa , na pawa" was the theme of his song which was really appropriate with the reunion programme.

Anjan Dutta

I enjoyed the whole day. The organizers have really done a great job to make us nostalgic.

OUR BATCH:

pujo 2009

Parikrama ends on note of hope & happiness

again a end of the Durga puja. No, i don't think it is the end. A new start for the next.
Anyway I am not writing an essay about Durga puja. I just want to share my experience about the durga puja of this year (2009).

As per my point of view, again Maa Durga has reinforced pandal-hopping as the city’s favorite festive activity, one that bridges almost all gaps.

According to the news channels,, the final crowd count this Puja will be “25 to 30 per cent more” than last year’s.

But what drives lakhs of aching feet to the pandals, year after year, come rain or recession?

I think,The four days of Puja make even the most stressed-out person feel free-spirited. The glittering lights radiate a positive energy that is hard to resist.

DAY 1:

On the first day of Durga puja i.e Sashthi, i hopped the north Kolkata's puja pandals.

The evergreen Bagbazar Sarbojonin maintain their tradition for a long time.

The organizers do not worry about the theme. Here tradition comes first and of course it becomes successful in the running theme market. The organizers do not worry about the theme. Here tradition comes first and of course it becomes successful in the running theme market.

Then I went to Kumortuli park, Ahiritola and Beniatola. The roll, fuchka and Ice cream was the another attraction of the eve. The Nalin Sarkar Street, Hatibagan Sarbojonin , Nabin pally was also very innovative in my eyes.

DAY2

(right to left) TELENGABAGAN , YUBOBRINDO , KORBAGAN

On Saptami, I was with my school friends (Debasish, Subhadeep, Adhiraj, Deepayan, Nabonita, Jayita, Anindita, Arpan, Abhinaba
and others ) ..

On that day I visited the Karbagan, Yubabrinda, Telengabagan at the morning.

We enjoyed a delightful lunch at the Restaurant "Capri" near Hedua.

After lunch section we went to the central Kolkata.
There we Visit the College square, Santosh Mitra square and Shealdah Athletic.

The speciality of college square is "lighting". Current affairs becomes live in lighting.
Santosh Mitro square always make a replica of a memento. This time they make The Statue of Liberty.

DAY 3

Ashtami was alloted for south Kolkata.

Ekdalia evergreen,

Bosepukur, Mudiali, Tridhara was enlisted in my diary.

Mudiali is the best for me in this year.

Kolkata faced a little rainfall on Ashtami.but that can't redune the energy of the people.

Day 4:

After sparing pandal hoppers on Ashtami, the monsoon all but washed away the Navami festivities as Puja drew to a close. While lakhs across the city tried to hold on to the final moments — Navami is traditionally the day when excitement reaches the peak — a heavy downpour spoiled the mood for some time in the evening. The sudden spell of rain — after an extremely hot and humid day — caught revellers by surprise. Roads were waterlogged, pandals flooded. But when the rain eased up, the pandal hoppers streamed back on to the road. Like the past few years, traffic management was quite admirable this year too. People had to walk a little longer to reach top-draw pandals, but they did not mind it — at least they weren’t stuck in bumperto-bumper jams. Some

wondered whether traffic

movement on Saptami, Ashtami

and Navami was so smooth

because most people had already

started pandal hopping since

Panchami and Shashthi. In reality, it was not divine intervention, but the

result of effective traffic management plan.

The Metro Railway meanwhile,
expected a record number of passengers on Navami — well over 5 lakh. Last year, 4.09 lakh
passengers travelled on Metro on this day. It has already crossed 5 lakh this year — 5.23 lakh people travelled by the Metro on Shashthi,
against 2.13 lakh last year. Even on Saptami, this year’s figure was 3.53 l
a
kh, against 3.08 lakh last year and on A
shtami,

Metro carried 4.8 lakh passengers, a whopping one lakh more than last year.
